Eriosyce chilensis var. albidiflora—whose name breaks down as "woolly fig from Chile with white flowers" (Eriosyce from the Greek for woolly fig, chilensis for its Chilean home, and albidiflora for its white blooms)—is the northernmost and rarest form of the species, a local endemic restricted to coastal rocky outcrops near Pichidangui. What makes it special is its flowers: where the type variety blooms pink, this one produces funnel-shaped white and yellowish blooms with tepals that flare outward, and it is one of the largest-flowered taxa in the genus. Grow it in a sharply draining mineral mix, give it bright light with some protection from intense afternoon heat, water regularly in summer but let the soil dry completely between soakings, and keep it bone-dry in winter; it is hardy to at least 18–23°F when kept dry.
